CRAFTING ZERO WASTE STUDIO, WITH A BOTANICAL, HOLISTIC AND ANCESTRAL APPROACH.

  • Zero waste

No waste is produced in the production of MÃÄD garments. Fabric waste is converted into paper and dye waste into new pigments, compost and water for the garden.

  • Botanical.

I am not just selling a garment, but a sensorial experience intertwined with chemistry, botany and ethnobotany, where the fabric and dyes are alive and give the garment countless qualities.

  • Holistic

We must change paradigm and conceive products no longer in a linear way but a circular model which, thanks to a holistic vision, respects all the actors involved.

  • Ancestral

Using plants that were used to dye in ancient Egypt and the Mediterranean area connects me with history, with my ancestors and with the local environment.

Welcome to my natural dye studio, where I’m specialize in hand-dyeing clothing and accessories using a variety of local plant-based materials ( leaves, flowers, lichens, roots, barks and fungies) an upcycling of post consumer food/wine/cannabis waste and soil or minerals no toxic pigments. I’m deeply committed to respecting both people, animals and the environment in all the processes.

The beauty

of natural colors.

With natural dyes, colors and tones are obtained that are not achievable with chemical dyes. This is because natural dyes are not composed of a single color molecule, but rather the synergy of multiple colorants, different chemical groups, and even colorless or lightly colored substances from the plant. This gives natural dyes an unparalleled richness and subtlety of tones.

Healing proprieties

The fashion industry is the second most polluting on the planet and we can no longer ignore this fact. In addition to damaging and exploiting the plant and the people who participate in its production, all the chemical substances that are applied to the dyeing and finishing of the garments are no less important. In 26 seconds, 60% of what we put on it enters the skin, skin which is our largest organ and our barrier to the outside.

When dyeing a cloth with plants, the transformative process goes beyond creating a beautiful color palette. It involves infusing the fibers with a myriad of qualities inherent to the plant itself. The resulting garment transcends mere aesthetics; it becomes a vessel of therapeutic potential.

Whether it's a t-shirt, a scarf, or a shirt, each piece embodies properties that can offer a range of benefits. From sun protection to healing qualities such as relief for skin conditions, immune system support, energy enhancement, mood elevation, overall well-being promotion, resistance to bacterial growth, and odor control among others, the garment becomes more than just a piece of fabric – it becomes a holistic ally. By embracing MAAD products, individuals not only adorn themselves in beauty but also in the natural essence of well-being and vitality.

Packaging

The packaging is plastic free, coming from recycled and/or FSC certified paper. We upcycle strings and leaves used in the dyeing process in order to close and/or embellish our packages. We do not affix prints or use tape, to ensure that the materials can be reused and/or composted.

Transparency

For me, transparency is a symptom of honesty and ethics, which is why you know everything about our garments, from the date of birth and which dyes were used to dye the fabrics of which you know where they come from and what certificates they have. All this in order to guarantee quality, but above all the absence of toxic chemicals and labor exploitation.

Finishing of a garment

We wash the garments before and after dyeing with local or self-produced ecological soaps and add Effective Microorganisms and enzymes. We stretch them by adding botanical waters and essential oils to the well water that change as the seasons change.

Fabric and certification.

The fabrics we use come from small mills from Italy and the Czech Republic, they are Oeko tex and Gots certified which guarantee there are no chemical residues. They are then cut and sewn in two small family workshops here in Barcelona.

Energy involved

Stùdio MÃÄD is completely autosufficiency and off the grid, electricity is supplied by the sun and solar panels, as is hot water.

We follow the rhythms of nature and prefer sunny days to work.

Water

The water used for dyeing, washing, ironing... comes from a surface water well filtered by granite rocks.

The gray water is recycled by a constructed wetlands plant, and then used for irrigation.
